Welcome to my newsletter for March 2008. I hope you have enjoyed reading the previous newsletters which you can find by selecting from the menu below.
Spring is officially here on the 20th March. I love the change of seasons and the best time of year for me is the Spring with new life rising up around us and nature waking up from the winter and coming alive again. It is the season of colour and life.
It’s a great time for spring cleaning, not just our homes but our lives too, bringing to them a freshness and new energy by de-cluttering our minds and getting clear on what’s important to us in our lives.
Spring gives us that feeling of new beginnings and it really is a great time to get rid of some of our unwanted habits, to focus on a new project we’ve been meaning to get going for a while now or to just stop putting up with what we’ve been putting up with in our lives.
We can start this process by having a look at where we are with our life right now. If there were three areas of your life that you would like to improve, what would they be? Your health? Your financial situation? Your relationships? Your career? Your emotional or spiritual being, self confidence or some other personal development? Maybe your social life needs more fun and recreation?
Write down what areas you would like to improve – I am not asking for any commitment right now – so just write them down anyway and make sure they are things over which you have control in your life, not things you would like someone else to do or be.
If you are a bit stuck here think about how you could make your life better or what would put it back in balance. Are you spending too much time in one area and neglecting another? Are you confusing what’s urgent to do with what’s important? Or has it got to the point where something has already happened to make you focus on the important stuff you’ve been neglecting? What are you tolerating in your life that you really shouldn’t be?
Did you write down the areas you would like to improve? Fantastic, that is a huge step towards creating a life you love.
Ok, next ask yourself the following questions for each of the areas of your life you would like to improve, and write down your answers.
Q1. What excuses have I been making for not focussing on this area in the past?
Q2. Complete the sentence "I am no longer willing to accept my excuses because..."
Q3. Where will I be in a years time if I commit to change in this area right now?
Q4. Where will I be in a years time if I do not commit to change in this area right now?
Q5. What is one small action I can take today that can move me towards the outcome I want?
If you have completed this exercise, or even just had a go at starting, then you should feel proud and acknowledge your achievement at doing something most people do not do even once in their life. If you are feeling a bit daunted by it all, then don’t worry. The key is to just start with one small action that moves you forward and then you can consider where you want to go from there.
If you are ready to move on then ask yourself "What further actions can I take in the next month, three months, six months and year to move me towards the outcome I want?" Make these manageable steps that by completing will give you your end result, almost as by-product of doing them.
If you are thinking "I've tried this before" then put behind you any thoughts of past failure – they cannot affect your future unless you let them. Praise yourself for efforts you have already made and lessons you have already learnt. Then decide why you are absolutely committed to achieve your goal.
Enjoy your spring cleaning.
